Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu born 28 August to Thomas Philip Le Fanu and Emma Lucretia Dobbin Le Fanu.
1815
The family moves to the Phoenix Park west of Dublin following the appointment of Thomas Philip as chaplain to the Royal Hibernian Military School.
1826
Upon his appointment as dean of Emly, Thomas Philip moves his family to Abington, County Limerick.
1831-1836
Period of the Tithe Wars at the beginning of which the Le Fanu family lives in Abington at the risk of their lives.
1837
Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu completes university education at Trinity College, Dublin.
1838
Publishes his first story, "The Ghost and the Bonesetter," in the Dublin University Magazine.
1838-1840
"The Purcell Papers" published in the Dublin University Magazine.
1839
Called to the bar but never practices.
1840-1842
Journalistic enterprise. Purchases and edits the Warden and the Protestant Guardian. Also acquires a third share in each of three other newspapers.
1843
Marries Susanna Bennett.
1845
First novel, The Cock and Anchor.

Occupies the house in Merrion Square, Dublin, where he remains until his death. The Evil Guest published in Ghost Stories and Tales of Mystery.

Death of his wife, Susanna.

Becomes proprietor and editor of the Dublin University Magazine in which much of his writing is subsequently serialized.
