- Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu born 28 August to Thomas Philip Le Fanu and Emma Lucretia Dobbin Le Fanu.
- 1815
- The family moves to the Phoenix Park west of Dublin following the appointment of Thomas Philip as chaplain to the Royal Hibernian Military School.
- 1826
- Upon his appointment as dean of Emly, Thomas Philip moves his family to Abington, County Limerick.
- 1831-1836
- Period of the Tithe Wars at the beginning of which the Le Fanu family lives in Abington at the risk of their lives.
- 1837
- Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu completes university education at Trinity College, Dublin.
- 1838
- Publishes his first story, "The Ghost and the Bonesetter," in the Dublin University Magazine.
- 1838-1840
- "The Purcell Papers" published in the Dublin University Magazine.
